Invite to Public Meeting on Household Debt - Monday April 26th

Since the start of this recession families and individuals right across Dublin Central have had to confront the spiralling problem of debt. Many residents now face difficulties in relation to negative equity, mortgage repayments, car loans and credit card debt.

There is advice and information to hand. People need to know their rights. I have organised a public meeting on Monday April 26th at 7.30pm in the Aughrim Street Parish Centre. We have asked banking, credit management and legal experts to give you their opinion and views. You are very welcome to attend. The meeting will finish by 9pm.

My Work in April
Updates on my work with Councillors Mary O Shea and Ray McAdam on all local matters across the constituency are available here
My main priorities have included:
  • I am supporting a campaign to re-open our closed swimming pools in Dublin Central. The closure of St Vincent's swimming pool on the Navan Road and the planned closure of the City Council run Sean McDermott Street swimming pool deprives residents of much needed amenties. I am raising this with all government departments and agencies.
  • Representing residential concerns in relation to the opening of Prisoner Rehabilitation facilities in Wolfe Tone Street.
  • Attending local meetings in Drumcondra, North Strand, Gardiner Street and many other parts of the constituency.
  • Visiting local schools as part of the Oireachtas outreach programme.

As a Senator, I continue to raise a large number of national matters through the Oireachtas. Recent bills that I have spoken on include the Finance Bill 2010, the Energy Bill 2010 and the new Property Service Regulation Bill. Topical issues raised include the need for political reform, the attitude of this Government to youth unemployment and developments in the insurance industry. Other matters that I am working on include a policy document on our digital economy and the effect of recent developments with regard to the Euro on Ireland.
