‘The next train to Dunboyne will not be calling at Hansfield’
A large area of west Dublin is being denied access to the Dunboyne rail line because Noel Dempsey has failed to ensure access to the station, according to Fine Gael Dublin Transport Spokesman Senator Paschal Donohoe.
Senator Donohoe welcomed the long-awaited opening of the Dunboyne rail line, but said it was deeply ironic that Minister Dempsey’s maiden voyage on the service would pass the closed station at Hansfield.
“Thousands of residents in Ongar and Littlepace have been overlooked by Noel Dempsey because this station is not opening. This area has a rapidly growing population which needs a direct transport route to the city centre.
“As Noel Dempsey enjoys his first ride on the €160 million Dunboyne line today, I hope he spares a thought for Ongar and Littlepace. There isn’t even a timeline for opening up the facility.
“Hansfield was a developer-led project involving Menolly Homes and Manor Park Homes. Unfortunately, the Government seems powerless to force the developers to provide an access road. Until that happens, the station will remain closed. And until that happens, Minister Dempsey should feel a deep sense of embarrassment every time he uses the Dunboyne rail line.”
