Metro North and Local Residents

11th March, 2009

The start of the An Bord Pleanala process has rebooted local interest in the project. I attended a public meeting on the project in Phibsborough on Tuesday night. The meeting was attended by the RPA.

A wide range of issues were raised by residents. A large amount of support does exist for the project (particularly as concern grows that it might not happen). But residents do have some important concerns that we will need to address.

  1. Firstly, there is a cap of €30,000 on the amount of work that the RPA may fund for the restoration of any damage to properties near construction work. The key question from residents is whether this will be enough. To be honest, I do not know myself but I suppose that is the actual issue.
  2. Secondly, how can residents effectively engage with a further complex and detailed planning process. Thirdly, how will issues such as traffic and construction work be handled.

I will work with Residents for Re-alignment and all the other groups on these important issues.
