As regular readers of this site will know I am very proud to be Chairman of the Michael Collins and Arthur Griffith Commemorative Society. Each year we organise mass and a ceremony for these two great men. The event will be held this Sunday at 10.30 at St Josephs, Berkeley Road, Dublin 7. This will be followed a graveside ceremony in Glasnevin Society. I am delighted to confirm that Elaine Byrne, well known journalist and political scientist will be our guest speaker. The ceremony will commence at 12. All are, as always, welcome.

Clonliffe Road and District Local Update

FITZGIBBON STREET GARDA STATION

Much concern has been expressed regarding the future of Fitzgibbon Street Garda Station. I have sought information from the Minister for Justice in the Senate on a number of occasions. Officers based in Fitzgibbon Street will be temporarily replaced to Mountjoy Station when refurbishment works start in Fitzgibbon Street. Despite repeated efforts to establish when these works will start or for how long they will continue, Minister Ahern has failed to answer these enquiries. I want to assure you that I will continue to seek this information from the Government and An Garda Siochana and keep you updated when those details are available. Both Councillor McAdam and I will continue to campaign for the speedy re-opening of Fitzgibbon Street Garda station.

We are organising a public meeting tomorrow night on our healthcare plans.

Guest speakers will be Enda and Dr James Reilly TD. Meeting is 8pm at the Regency Hotel on the Swords Road.

I spoke at a meeting of Drumcondra Business in the Community last week.

This was an excellent meeting where all of the local businesses in the area get together to discuss common issues and opportunities.

I spoke about my background in business (large and small) and about the need for more business people to participate in the political process. My contribution also focused on the challenges facing small businesses and the need for Government to do more.
